Rollins and Davidson Host ACS Exchange Concerts for Fall, 2003
ACS Sisters Perform Crozier Elegie

Professor Cynthia Lawing of Davidson College and Prof. Gloria Cook of Rollins College were the featured artists in fall, 2003 ACS Visiting Artists Exchange Program. They were born in Hong Kong and started piano lessons when they were three. They received their degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music and studied under Vitya Vronsky Babin of the Babin duo piano team. They have won numerous prizes and have performed with The Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra and The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. The concerts were on the following dates:
September 11, 2003 at Davidson
October 5, 2003 at Rollins

Both concerts feature two-piano works including the newly composed Elegie (.mov) by Prof. Daniel Crozier of the Rollins Music Department.

Milton Babbitt Celebration at Millsaps College October 31 - November 1

The Millsaps College Department of Performing Arts, in a collaboration with the Associated Colleges of the South, is presenting an academic conference celebrating the importance of Milton Babbitt's contributions to music in the twentieth century and beyond. Babbitt, a native son of Jackson, will return to celebrate and talk with us. Papers will be read and presentations given by notable Babbitt scholars, including Andrew Mead and Stephen Peles. The conference will included performances by Robert Taub, William Anderson, and Luna Nova, the ACS new music ensemble. The Orpheus Alliance: Some Statistics
Since the Orpheus Alliance was formed in August, 2001 it has involved the following numbers of faculty, students, and guest artists:

  • 15 ACS music departments
  • 42 ACS faculty
  • 10 guest composers/performers
  • 9 ACS student testers for online teaching materials
  • 32 student composers/performers
Third ACS Student Composition Contest
Deadline for entry in the Second ACS Composition Contest is March 5, 2004. The student winner will be invited to be a guest at the ACS Technology Workshop and New Music Festival at Southwestern University in July, 2004. Contest guidelines and entry forms are available at the ACS Music Composition site.
