Morehouse Student Composers Participate in Reading Session of New Works
The Morehouse Department of Music, in cooperation with ACS presented a reading session of new works by student composers on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Morehouse College. The event featured works by students Kenneth English, Calen Johnson, and Jimmie Moore. The performers were Jeana Melilli (flute), Ted Gurch (clarinet/bass clarinet), Helen Kim (violin/viola), Craig Hultgren (cello), and Morehouse professor Jefferson Ethridge (piano). Gurch, Kim, and Hultgren are members of Luna Nova, the ACS new music ensemble. Reading sessions allow students to hear performances of their works as they really sound so they are not dependent on the approximation of MIDI files. They also establish a dialogue between performer and composer.

Middlebury College Luna Nova Concert Now Available in Streaming Audio

On Wednesday, March 17 at Middlebury College members of the Orpheus Alliance presented a workshop outlining the work done by the ACS music collaborative and demonstrating several of our new Music Learning Objects. More than 30 faculty members and information technologists from 21 colleges attended. The workshop was followed in the evening with a concert at the Center for the Arts featuring composers and performers from ACS, MANE, and MITC. The concert is now available in streaming audio at:

Flash Animations for Students
We are exploring the possibility of teaching Flash animation to students who would like to use it for class demonstrations, web pages, or conference presentations. An example of student work now online is Centenary student Laura Daigle's analysis of her percussion work Kinematics (http://www.colleges.org/~music/LDProject/Daigle.html).
Anyone interested should write gray@colleges.org.
