Efforts toward collaborative projects are possible primarily because of the use of technology in exchanging data, in webcasting, in streaming video and audio, in creating online discussions, and in creating online learning objects. However, projects will be successful only to the degree that they broaden the student experience in the concrete world of learning about music from real musicians. We hope that the Orpheus Alliance can combine the best of both worlds, using computer networks to make the traditional experience of music making even richer.
