Luna Nova, the ACS New Music Ensemble, was founded in 2003 to begin a series of performances of classics of the 20th century for the annual ACS New Music Fesival. In July 2003 they performed Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire and George Crumb's Vox Balaenae. In addition, they performed works by ACS faculty composers Charles Mason, Dorothy Hindman, and Robert Tanner as well as works by guest composers Robert Patterson and James Romig. In the fall of 2003 they performed at the Milton Babbitt Celebration sponsored by Millsaps College and ACS. This concert included works by Babbitt, Crumb, Mason, Hindman, and Romig. At the 2004 ACS New Music Festival the ensemble played new compositions written for them by two members of the ACS Composers Forum. As part of the ongoing classics series they played Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. The ensemble gave performances of the winning student contest compositions as well as did readings of other student works in progress. Contact Patricia Gray (pgray@pgray.net) for information about scheduling performances. Streaming audio of the Pierrot Lunaire performance is available here.
