Task Force Report: Promotions and Modeling

February 16, 2002

Day 1

  1. Committee welcomed new members and re-introduced continuing members
  2. Discussion on the following issues:
  • Low number of faculty on task force
    • Due to prior recognition as "training"?

  • Representation from ACS schools in task force
    • 12 of 16 schools represented
    • schools should be asked to add representation

  • Should task forces begin to merge, as needs are changing?
    • Look at missions, redefine, reallocate

  • Database project proposed last year
    • Is assessment TF's database (survey) the same project?
    • How can we get more schools to reply to survey?
    • Information should be distributed at deans' meeting

  • Issues requiring further discussion:
    • Blackboard
      • Implementation (how many campuses use it?)
      • Course development
      • nline communities (without portal)
      • Circuit rider?
      • Sharing lessons learned

  • Bringing IF to all 1st year students
    • Mandatory status
    • Lessons learned

  • Undergraduate research
    • Is this IF?
    • Create model for ACS?

  • Archival Research
    • Repository for original/primary source materials
    • Web-based

  • Student resources
    • How can students be better utilized on IF projects

Day 2

Task Force reviewed top interests:

  1. Database
    • Does it meet our needs in its current format?
    • How do we work with the Assessment TF to move forward with DB development?

  2. Application negotiation by ACS
    • Blackboard
    • GIS

  3. Circuit Riders
    • Who are they?
    • How do they divide time between campuses?

  4. Development of pedagogy for BB and GIS applications
    • Sharing of ideas
    • Separate GIS/BB symposia
    • Annual gatherings like IF symposium

  5. Student Symposium for ACS students
    • Great idea! Move forward!

Recommendations moving forward:

  1. M&P task force will develop database outline as means to keep committee functioning through the coming months
  2. ACS application negotiation
  3. Bring in high level speakers
  4. Use circuit riders
  5. Create student symposium
  6. Add representation from additional 4 campuses
