IR-Spec (trial version) is complete except for an animation which has tech problems which will be cleared up. It needs additional polish which will be ongoing. The first 3 modules were used this Spring with the organic lab classes and the full ten modules (4.5 mb) will be used in our Organic Spectral Analysis class this Fall. I would like to do the test run with a class before it is published. This tutorial is for all organic students. At Millsaps it will be required in organic lecture and lab, and in the organic spec class. It will allow the instructor to introduce the use of IR spectra and then the students will learn the interpretation by using the tutorial. It occurs to me that the addition of a leader would allow the use of IR-Spec in distance learning where there is no instructors to introduce the subject. I am considering the idea.

Temporarily the Trial Version 1.0 is available, upgrading will continue.

IR-Spec is a practical tutorial on how to convert raw data, IR spectra, intouseful information, bonds and structure of organic molecules. It assumes the topic, IR spectrophotometry, is introduced first. The major classes of organic compounds are covered in 10 modules beginning with introduction, C-H stretch, alkanes, etc through nitriles. Feedback on wrong and correct answers are part of the instruction. Hint is available on each of the 90 questions. QUestions involve review of previous material. Students would gain from repeated exposure.
