Interim Report
June 2, 1998
In addition to the web site materials summarized below, I have been invited to over 170 colleges in various countries (U.S., Canada, Sweden, Finland, U.K., Germany, and New Zealand) to present technology in education workshops. My workshop topics and history are linked at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen
Helpers for Educators and Education Researchers
I have revised my links to my educational tutorials, education research documents, accounting tutorials, and accounting research materials. Note the links table at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen (Note that in a few weeks all Trinity University servers will be changed over to Windows NT. This will change the URL addresses of my documents.)
Helpers for Accounting Educators and Researchers
A brief progress report about project development and how I have used it or plan to use it in the classroom,
- I have two hard drives on Trinity University Computer Center computers.
One is a 4 Gb LAN drive that contains materials that I let students access for software that cannot be run on the web (e.g., Microsoft Access databases) and materials restricted by copyrights for student use only. The second drive is a new 9 Gb drive being installed on a web server that allows me to share even more with ACS faculty and the world in general.
The actual distribution of the project itself to ACS colleagues
Some kind of (brief) instructions/information for colleagues who might want to use or adapt the project.
- In most shared materials at my web site, the materials require no special instructions.
- Educators will have difficulties downloading and running my accounting theory ToolBooks at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen/#ToolBooks The problem is that these were initially written for CD-ROMs and are too large for efficient network delivery. They may take hours to download, and then they may not run well using the Asymetrix Neuron plugin. In the future, I hope to convert much of this material into JavaScript.
- My new 9 Gb server is just being installed. This will allow me to share much more of the audio on my CD-ROMs with web users. Please watch for more audio and some video in the future.
Future Research
- I am commencing my sabbatical leave research described at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen/258wp/leave98.htm (Much of this research is directly related to my Mellon Grant topics).
- I am bootstrapping myself in some research on metacognition and discovery learning. I am especially interested in how to improve asynchronous learning materials and activities for better long-term performance. I now have a new module in my technology in education workshops on metacognition issues. I hope to add parts of this module to my existing helper document at http://www.trinity.edu/~rjensen/ideasmm.htm
- I am continuing to track both network database and asynchronous network learning trends. One nice thing about my web documents on these issues is that the documents can be updated daily.
- I am starting another round of updating my database on technology education in accounting education programs. You can find the existing applications at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen/survey1.htm
- I am starting another round of updating my database on publisher/vendor technology materials for accounting educators. You can find the existing database at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen/245xp01.htm
- I will soon update my high-end authoring software document at http://WWW.Trinity.edu/~rjensen/245soft1.htm
I hope that faculty and students will find some of my documents useful in their own work. I will be glad to help any of them privately if they send me email messages. (I will be out of the country part of Fall 1998 on sabbatical leave.)
