Theatre Faculty (ACS
only):
June 5-9
Leaders: Laura Canon, Rhodes College and Tony Haigh,
Centre College
This workshop explored the possibility of theatre faculty director
and designer exchanges between colleges in the association. Some of the
issues addressed were the feasibility of aligning production calendars
and curricula, and how technology could facilitate the "teaching exchange"
component of the proposed program.
Sunoikisis Summer Seminar and Curriculum Planning (ACS only):
June 8-16

These sessions were intended for all interested ACS classics faculty, particularly
those who participated in the Fall, 2002 ICC's.
Agenda
Interactivity with Flash
June 19-23
Instructors: Patricia Gray, ACS and Sean Pollack,
Academic Technology Consultant, Cal. State Fullerton
This workshop laid the foundation for the creation of interactive
web-deliverable teaching and learning applications with Macromedia Flash.
We began by learning the basics of Flash's animation and interactivity
capabilities. Applicants had to be experienced with Web browsing. Experience
with Web authoring and/or graphic applications was recommended. All ACS
participants received a copy of Flash.
This workshop was project-based, with ample time
for participants to work on projects they planned in advance, and one-on-one
help from Tech Center staff and student interns. Teams that included faculty,
support staff and/or students who provided ongoing technical support
were encouraged to apply. All workshops were designed for both Windows and
Mac users.
Digital Video for Teaching and Learning
June 26-July 1
Instructors: Dick House, Wabash College and Dave
Kenney
This workshop included hands-on training in videography, video editing,
and final product formats, as well as a discussion of integrating video
into teaching and learning.
This workshop was project-based, with ample time
for participants to work on projects they planned in advance, and one-on-one
help from Tech Center staff and student interns. Teams that included faculty,
support staff and/or students who provided ongoing technical support
were encouraged to apply. All workshops were designed for both Windows and
Mac users.
Alianco Digital Mosaic Group (Russian instructors)
June 27-30
Leaders: This work session provided an opportunity
for faculty in Russian language and culture to develop a curriculum for
an inter-institutional spring course about Russian culture (with a language
component). The course was followed by a summer study-travel program
in Russia. For more information, see the Russian

Web Production: Dreamweaver & Imaging
July 8-14
Instructors: Deena Berg,
ACS and Burkhard Henke, Davidson College
This workshop was designed for faculty and staff who were interested in
developing Web sites for teaching and learning. Software covered
included Adobe Photoshop Elements and Macromedia Dreamweaver. The goal
of the course was to create a site that serves a clear pedagogical
purpose and is coherent in visual layout and design. Applicants had to be
experienced with Web browsing. Some experience with web page creation
was highly recommended. ACS participants were eligible to receive some
software covered in the workshop.

Digital Technology and Culture
July 17-21
Leader: Bryan Alexander,
Centenary College
This was a work session for faculty and staff who created shared
modules addressing issues of contemporary digital technology and culture.
Participants discussed possible collaborative activities such
as inter-institutional team-taught courses or portions of courses and
the creation of a consortial portal for digital technology and culture.
Music Faculty Workshop
July 24-28
Leaders: Patricia Gray, ACS; Jim Cook, Birmingham-Southern and Eric McIntyre, Centenary
This workshop was designed to help music faculty become active in the ACS
collaborative music program ("The
Orpheus Alliance"). Topics included exploring the possibilities
for class collaborations within the ACS, planning for the ACS Visiting
Faculty Artists Project. The first ACS New Music Concert was held
as part of the workshop, which included works by faculty and students
involved with the Composers Forum project. Tthere were sessions dealing specifically with creating
audio, video, and animation for the Web and for use in classes.
Participants had ample time to work on projects and one-on-one help
from Tech Center staff and student interns. Facilities were available
for rehearsals and discussion groups. All computer sessions were designed
for both Windows and Mac users.
