Fall 2005 IT Staff Retreat

October 6-9, 2005
ACS Tech Center

Palm Tree
This year ACSTC held its seventh meeting for information technology staff. Back by popular demand were reports from campuses, opportunities for discussion, sharing of tools/software solutions, and chances for the four groups (user support, instructional technology, webmasters and systems/networking) to meet both together and separately.

Joint sessions included reports from campuses (each delegation should present the highs and lows of the previous year, as well as what was planned for the future), reports on ACS Tech Center and NITLE activities, a session on streaming audio and video, and a workshop on Project Management, including emerging practices in this field.

These sessions were organized by Vidya Ananthanaryanan (Trinity University) and Vicki Sells (University of the South), based on their recent participation as part of a NITLE delegation to the Educause Institute for Instructional Technology. Topics included the place of instructional technology at small liberal arts colleges. There were also connections with instructional technologists in other NITLE regions.

User Support:
These sessions addressed automating support, as well as a roundtable discussion of other support issues.

Systems/Networking:
These sessions included VMware and Virtual Servers, Cisco Clean Access and a security roundtable.

Sharing Tools and Projects:
We expanded last year's popular tool time to include two opportunities to share tools and projects. "Tool Time" offered an opportunity to share handy tools and software solutions found on the campuses. "Take a Swim in the Project Pool" offered an opportunity to present on projects from the campuses. "Project Pool" was followed by a reception where small groups met to discuss projects they've seen presented.
