1. THIRD ANNUAL ACSTC SUMMER SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
INTERNSHIP
The Associated Colleges of the South Technology Program is in search
of
Computer Science majors or individuals with a passion for computers
and
software development. Through development of a real software project,
interns will develop real-world skills and create a network of friends
while
working with a professional software developer. The internship will
be from
May 30 to July 29, 2005. Applications are due February 11.

2. ACS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM IN CLASSICS
The Third Annual ACS Undergraduate Research Symposium in Classics will
take
place April 8-9, 2005 at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Abstracts

applications may be submitted online and are due February 4, 2005.

3. COMPOSERS OF INTERNET2 (CI2): TECHNOLOGY-ENABLED
COMPOSITION CONTEST
Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, the University of Alabama
at
Birmingham, and the National Institute for Technology & Liberal
Education
invite young composers to participate in an exciting new competition.
The
organizers seek works for unaccompanied cello in celebration of Dr.
Ronald
Crutcher, Wheaton's new president and cellist. Prof. Craig Hultgren,
Birmingham-Southern cellist and activist for new music, will perform
and

5. ACS ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT FEBRUARY
11-13
Mark your calendars to attend the ACS Environmental Summit at Morehouse
College in Atlanta, February 11-13, 2005. This 3-day gathering will combine
presentations on undergraduate research (with over 50 students presenting),
green campus practices, international courses, campus-community
partnerships, and green teaching with an environmental action workshop
and

6. ENVIRONMENTAL MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR FACULTY, STUDENTS
AND STAFF
The Curriculum and Faculty Development Alliance (CFD) and the Campus
as Lab
for Sustainability Alliance (CLS) each have rolling deadlines for grants
and
are actively seeking faculty, staff, and students who do great things
for
the environment on their campuses.
CFD supports ACS professors to develop or to re-design environmental

8. LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES SYMPOSIUM
Mark your calendars now for the 13th Annual Latin American Studies
Symposium
to be held at Birmingham-Southern College April 8-9, 2005. The LAS
Symposium
is an undergraduate interdisciplinary research conference providing
students
the opportunity to present original research papers. Faculty are invited
to
serve as panel chairs and discussants. We invite submissions of abstracts
for 15 minute presentations in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The abstracts

Symposium link) and they must reach us by January 31, 2005. Please
note
there is a registration fee of $20.00 to help cover the meals at the
