8. NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES OFFERS SEMINARS FOR ACS FACULTY

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) offers each year through its Division of Education Programs approximately 50 seminars and institutes for the intensive study of important texts and topics in the humanities. NEH offers programs for college and university faculty, as well as programs for school teachers. ACS institutions can participate in two ways: 1) faculty members can apply to participate in any of the Seminars or Institutes for College and University Teachers and receive a stipend to support their work during the program, and 2) our institutions can apply to the NEH for funding to be host institutions for one or more of these humanities programs. Awards to colleges and universities range from $60,000 to $180,000. NEH is particularly eager to receive proposals for Seminars and Institutes that explore significant events and themes in America's history and culture. (For more information on this vital civic and historical initiative, please visit http://www.wethepeople.gov).
Preference is given to faculty members who have not yet had the opportunity to participate in an NEH Summer Seminar or Institute.

The deadline for applications (both for faculty who wish to participate in a Seminar and institutions that wish to offer a program) is March 1, 2003. Further information and application guidelines are available at http://www.neh.gov, or contact the Division of Education Programs at 202-606-8463.
