NEWS
1. MANU DIGITAL ARCHIVE PRODUCT RELEASED
The product of the 2005 ACSTC Software Engineering Program, called "Manu" has been released. Manu is a digital library application that allows for publishing of original TEI marked-up (http://www.tei-c.org/P4X/) manuscripts along with high resolution digital images. It is built on top of the Fedora Repository System (http://fedora.info), and can be used in conjunction with Fedora to archive, publish, and search original or born-digital documents. 2. PATRICIA GRAY AND EMMY NEAL PRESENT AT THE ASSOCIATION FOR TECHNOLOGY IN MUSIC INSTRUCTION MEETING
On Friday, November 4, 2005 Emmy Neal (BSC '05) and Patricia Gray (ACSTC) did a presentation at the Association for Technology in Music Instruction and
College Music Society meetings entitled "A Multimedia Presentation of Analyses of Three Melodramas in Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire op. 21"

3. SPRING/SUMMER 2006 TECHNOLOGY FELLOWS SELECTED
ACS is pleased to announce the selection of the Spring/Summer 2006 ACS Technology Fellowship recipients. Fellows receive a $2500 stipend, in return for creating technology-based teaching or research materials that can be shared with colleagues both at the home campus and across the consortium.
The new Fellows are John Blackburn (Washington and Lee), Dan Boye (Davidson), Timothy S. Cutler (Austin College), Monique Head (Morehouse), Milton Moreland (Rhodes), John Ore (Southwestern), Aaron Prevots (Southwestern), Mark Rush (Washington and Lee), Erland Stevens (Davidson), Matthew Weeks (Centenary) and De Ting Wu (Morehouse). 5. SUZANNE BONEFAS GOES TO RHODES COLLEGE
As many of you are aware, Suzanne Bonefas of the ACS Technology Center has accepted the position of Director of Special Projects at Rhodes College. We know you join us in wishing her the best. We would like to underscore how much we appreciated the leadership she provided over nine years to our many ACS technology initiatives and to the technology center at Southwestern . 6. ENVIRONMENTAL INTERN TRAINING WORKSHOP A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
Twenty-one students and 8 faculty/staff from 13 ACS campuses attended the environmental intern training workshop at Furman University, October 28-30. At the workshop, students learned how they might go about replicating Sewanee's Environmental Resident Program, which could galvanize as many as 15-20 students on each campus to act as their
dorms' "environmental conscience" every year. For more information about the workshop, please contact your Faculty Fellow, or Elizabeth MacNabb, emacnabb@centre.edu.

1. BRITISH STUDIES STUDENT SYMPOSIUM : CALL FOR PAPERS
The Fourth Annual ACS British Studies Student Symposium will be held on February 17-18, 2006 at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
SUBMISSIONS: We welcome submissions of undergraduate research for twenty minute presentations on topics relating to all aspects of British culture from antiquity to the present. Please submit an abstract of approximately one hundred words. With each submission, include a title and the name of a faculty contact. We prefer electronic submissions, which should be sent to asman@hendrix.edu. Please send all email submissions as attached files in MSWord format. Abstracts may also be mailed to: Kevin Asman, Department of English, Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Avenue, Conway, AR 72032. The submission deadline if December 10, 2005.

2. WOMEN'S/GENDER STUDIES CONFERENCE 2006
Plan now to attend the ACS 2006 Women's/Gender Studies Conference at Centenary College. We have an exciting line-up of keynote speakers, international guests and musical performances: The keynote speaker is Elizabeth Birch of the Human Rights Campaign. The Magnolia Sisters are the featured performers and will present many styles of the French music characteristic of the heritage of Louisiana. They will perform during a traditional Louisiana crawfish boil at the conclusion of the conference.

3. SEMESTER IN TURKEY FALL 2006
Global Partners is pleased to announce that Dr. Dan Shaw of Colorado College will be the director of the Fall 2006 Semester in Turkey Program. Dr. Shaw has traveled extensively in the Middle East, including Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. He teaches courses in Islamic Studies and in Christianity, specializing in issues of cultural interchange between Islamic and Christian societies.
The Semester in Turkey Program offers students a unique opportunity to study in both Istanbul and Ankara and includes a week long field trip in western Turkey. The program is open to students in all disciplines, including the natural sciences. 4. GLOBAL PARTNERS OPPORTUNITIES
**An International Student Advisors Roundtable will be held at the College of Wooster, February 16-18, 2006. Advisors will share concerns and best practices, designed for small liberal arts colleges. The goal for this roundtable is to bring International Student Advisors from similar institutions together - to share common problems, unique solutions, and to create a collegial network among partners in international education. 5. LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES SYMPOSIUM
The 14th Annual Latin American Studies Symposium will be held at Birmingham-Southern College April 7-8, 2006. This interdisciplinary event is a unique opportunity for undergraduate student to present their research in a professional setting. Last year's roundtable with graduate students in Latin American Studies and Spanish programs will be repeated this year. 6. WORKSHOP MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR CAMPUS DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP MODELS
The ACS Diversity Program Planning Committee is offering mini-grants to offset expenses associated with hosting a campus workshop to develop and to promote staff, faculty, and student Diversity Leadership. Diversity Leadership models include, but are not limited to, NCBI, the Anti-Defamation League, Training for Social Change, and the National Conference for Community and Justice. Other models also may be used. 8. TEACHING AND LEARNING WORKSHOP DATES ANNOUNCED
The dates for this year's ACS Teaching and Learning Workshop are June 6-11, 2006. Held each year at Rollins College in Winter Park FL, the workshop is
designed for good teachers who want to hone their craft and build a culture of excellent teaching on their respective campuses. Both senior and junior faculty from all disciplines will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their teaching, trade ideas and techniques, and discuss the unique pedagogical challenges and opportunities of the liberal arts environment. If you are interested in attending this year's workshop, please contact your academic dean or provost who will then nominate you for participation. 9. NITLE SEEKS CAMPUSES INTERESTED IN TEACHING ARABIC
Michael Toler, the program director for NITLE's Al-Musharaka Initiative (http://blogs.nitle.org/almusharaka) and editor of the Arab Culture and Civilization Web Resource (http://arabworld.nitle.org), will convene and facilitate a meeting for those interested in teaching Arabic. This meeting will address what NITLE can do to help colleges that do not presently teach Arabic or other Middle Eastern languages but would like to be able to do so, as well as what might be done to enable those colleges which do teach lower-level courses to be able to teach higher-level courses. If you are interested, please contact Nancy Millichap (millichap@midwest-itc.org), presently the director of NITLE’s regional center in the Midwest and as of January director of professional development programs for NITLE, who is working with Dr. Toler to organize this meeting.

10. BRING NITLE "WORKSHOPS TO GO" TO YOUR CAMPUS
The ACS Tech Center will not offer summer technology workshops in Summer 2006. Instead, we invite you to take part in NITLE’s Workshops to Go program, which promotes the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning by bringing professional development opportunities for faculty and academic support staff directly to campus. Workshops are tailored to fit participants' needs and the host campus's infrastructure. Bring a workshop to your own campus or attend one at another campus.
