Research opportunities with the ACS Excavation Program in Turkey are now available for ACS faculty. In particular, the project is seeking a paleobotanist to pursue paleo-environmental studies, a physical anthropologist to do mortuary analysis and help in the excavation of a Late Roman/Byzantine cemetery, and an anthropologist to study modern day nomadism, etc. in the Elaml1 plain. The Centre College Chemistry Department and ACS are sponsoring a one-day faculty workshop on the application of NMR equipment to the undergraduate curriculum. The conference is scheduled for June 26, 1998 at Centre College (Danville, Kentucky). ACS-Mellon Technology Fellows in all disciplines have been producing course materials and reports about the use and impact of these materials. The conference will be held at the University of the South campus in Sewanee, TN on November 6-8, 1998. Participation cost is $150 per person, which includes lodging and meals. Volunteers are needed to serve on the ACS Women's Studies Conference Steering and Planning Committee. This committee will meet in Atlanta on Nov. 7-8, 1998 to begin planning the conference scheduled for next fall at Birmingham-Southern College. Volunteers need not be part of a women's studies department or program.
