3. GIS WORKSHOP TO BE OFFERED AT FURMAN
NITLE (www.nitle.org)
will offer a workshop on GIS Across the Curriculum
at Furman University on January 5-9, 2005. The purpose of this
program
is to demonstrate the substance and value of GIS (Geographic Information
Systems) in varied contexts across the liberal arts. Following a
proactive, hands-on approach, the workshop introduces the fundamental
concepts of GIS across a range of applications. Applications deadline

4. DESIGN YOUR OWNS GIS WORKSHOP
NITLE (www.nitle.org)
announces a new opportunity for faculty and
support staff to customize their GIS learning experiences. NITLE
invites the submission of proposals for a 3- to 4-day GIS workshop
that is focused on specific disciplinary or interdisciplinary

5. 2005 STUDENT MUSIC COMPOSITION CONTEST GUIDELINES
ACS student composers are invited to submit scores for the
fourth annual ACS Student Composition Contest. Students must
be enrolled in music composition studies at an Associated Colleges
of the South or NITLE Southern Region institution during the
2004-2005 academic year. Complete guidelines for entry are

6. APPLY NOW FOR CFD and CLS ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS
The Curriculum and Faculty Development (CFD) alliance and the Campus
as
Lab for Sustainability (CLS) alliance seek proposals for grants of
$1500 to $3000. Grant applications have a ROLLING DEADLINE, so qualified
grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. CFD grants
encourage any ACS faculty to create or re-design courses to deal
with environmental issues, or to implement a minor, major, or program
on your campus. For more information, please contact alliance director

grants
encourage ACS staff, students, and faculty to create campus
projects that deal with energy conservation, recycling, campus

7. UNDERGRADUATE ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH PROPOSAL DEADLINE NOVEMBER

ACS is pleased to announce its second annual Undergraduate Research
Symposium in Environmental Studies at Morehouse College, February
11-13, 2005. Students are invited to present research in any
area of environmental studies. Proposal abstracts are due by
November 15, 2004. For more information, please contact Elizabeth
