NEWS
1. ACSTC RELEASES ELATED v.2.03
ACSTC has released a new version of the Elated web-based client (v.2.03
available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/elated/) for the Fedora
Repository System (http://www.fedora.info <http://www.fedora.info/>).
Elated is a product of the 2004 ACS Tech Center Software Engineering
Program, and an original member of the 2004 team, Binaya Poudyal (Austin
College, BA in Computer Science, 2005), returned for the summer to work
on the software.
The new version of Elated strengthens the ability of Elated as an
institutional repository and as a web-based tool for managing Fedora
assets. The new features include bulk upload, a folder storage
metaphor, default collection templates for Dublin Core metadata, and the
ability to attach behavior to digital assets (Fedora 'disseminators')
via a web-based interface.
The first version of Manu, a manuscript archival and publishing system
used for building digital libraries, and the product of the 2005 ACSTC
Software Engineering Internship, will be released shortly as well. Manu
is built on top of both Elated and Fedora.

OPPORTUNITIES
1. ACSTC TO HOLD FALL IT STAFF RETREAT OCTOBER 6-9
ACSTC will hold a meeting for information technology staff October 6-9
at the ACS Technology Center. Participants in the retreat will meet in
two separate groups - User Support and Networking/Systems Support - to
report on IT issues at their home campuses, follow up on last year's
meeting, and discuss new issues and solutions.
If you are interested in presenting at the retreat or have suggestions
for the program, please contact Rebecca Davis at rdavis@colleges.org.
----------
2. ACSTC TO HOLD DAM (DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT) SYMPOSIUM DECEMBER 1-3
ACSTC will hold a symposium to discuss strategic issues for Digital
Assets Management on campuses December 1-3 and explore the questions of:
- How do campuses plan for current and long-term DAM needs?
- What solutions are available and how have they worked for other small
colleges?
- What are the issues for long-term interoperability and collection
growth that need to be taken into account in planning?
Sessions will include presentations from colleagues about specific solutions
(such as CONTENTdm, MDID and Fedora) and presenters from Ithaka and ARTstor,
who will talk about administrative structures to support use of digital
information for teaching and research. Slots will be available to teams from
ACS and NITLE schools. Keynote speakers include David Seaman (Director,
Digital Library Federation) and Roger Schoneld (Ithaka Research).
For more information, please visit the symposium website: http://www.colleges.org/techcenter/dam/symposium05.html
