1) NITLE NEWSLETTER AVAILABLE ONLINE

The NITLE News, the newsletter for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, is available online at: http://www.nitle.org/newsletter. Check it out for all the latest on NITLE and regional technology center news and programming.

2) ACS DIGITAL ASSETS MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

Interns in the ACS Summer Software Engineering Internship have created a web-based application called DAMSEL (Digital Assets Management System for Electronic Libraries) to organize large collections of digital material, e.g., images, sound files, etc. We are currently seeking beta testers for this software. If you are interested, please contact Deena Berg, ACS Tech Center, dberg@colleges.org. ACS plans to make this software freely available for use by any ACS member in Spring 2004. 3) APPLY NOW FOR OCTOBER IT STAFF RETREAT

The ACS Technology Center announces the 5th IT staff symposium, scheduled for October 16-19 at the ACSTC. Participants in the retreat will meet in two separate groups - User Support and Networking/Systems Support - to report on IT issues at their home campuses, follow up on last year's meeting, and discuss new issues and solutions. Planned topics include residential networking, student workers in IT, support tracking, wireless technology, effective practices in instructional technology, security, disaster recovery, and LDAP.

IT Personnel from all member ACS institutions are invited to participate. ACS covers the cost of travel, room, and food for ACS members attending the conference. 4) "HISTORY OF THE INTERNET" COLLABORATION CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

ACS is seeking faculty and staff with interest and expertise in the history of the Internet to collaborate in the creation of a course and/or learning objects and to team-teach with ACS colleagues. The course is tentatively planned for Fall 2004. ACS members interested in teaching or enrolling in such a course should contact Deena Berg at berg@colleges.org

5) ACS PLANS TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS FOR SUMMER 2004

Please help us plan next summer's ACSTC workshops! We have posted a survey at http://www.colleges.org/techcenter/eval/acssurvey.html to poll your preferences for workshop offerings in Summer 2004. Possibilities include Introduction to 3-D modeling, Introduction to Video Editing, Text Encoding with XML, Creating Web-accessible Databases with PHP and MySQL, Macromedia Flash, Teaching with Multimedia, and Building Digital Collections (using DAMSEL, the new Digital Assets Manager, developed at the ACS Technology Center). 6) APPLY NOW FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2004 TECHNOLOGY FELLOWSHIPS

ACS is pleased to announce the continuation of our ACS Technology Fellowship Program for the Spring and Summer 2004 semesters. The deadline for applications is October 3, 2003. 7) MILTON BABBITT CELEBRATION AT MILLSAPS

The Millsaps College Department of Performing Arts and ACS will host a conference, MILTON BABBITT: A Celebration of his Life and Music, October 31-November 1, 2003 at Millsaps. Milton Babbitt will be the guest composer, and performers include Robert Taub, guest pianist, and Luna Nova, the newly formed ACS new music ensemble (http://www.colleges.org/~music/ensembles.html). 8) GLOBAL PARTNERS FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR IN RUSSIA

The Global Partners Project invites faculty to an interdisciplinary seminar, "The Arts in Russia's Changing Economy and Society," to be held in June 2004. The seminar will be designed to engage faculty from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds interested in Russia, focusing particularly on the arts-including film, television, theatre, the visual arts, music, literature, and architecture, the "high", "middle" and the "popular"-and their role in society since the fall of the Soviet Union.
