Environmental Studies Workshops Planned for Fall ------------------------ The ACS Environmental Studies Program invites participation in the following fall workshops: Team Training Workshop - Great Smoky Mountain Institute-Tremont,Tennessee- September 20-22. For more information contact Elizabeth MacNabb at macnabb@richmond.edu. Campus as a Lab Alliance - Campus Development Clinic -Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham, Alabama -October 25-27. Spirituality and Sustainability Alliance - Religion and Animals Workshop - Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas - November 1-3. For more information, contact Laura Hobgood-Oster at hoboster@southwestern.edu or Jay McDaniel at mcdaniel@hendrix.edu. ---------- New sources of funding will be available to students, staff, and faculty for Environmental projects this year. Besides funding from the four alliances that awarded grants in 2001- 2002, both the Spirituality and Sustainability Alliance and the Sustainable Development in the Global Community Alliance will offer grants to faculty who wish to create courses and programs in these areas. In addition, grant writing workshop funds and small campus awareness project funds will be available as well. Requests for proposals can be found on the Environmental Programs homepage at http://www.colleges.org/~enviro. ---------- ACS announces the 4th IT staff symposium, scheduled for October 20-22 at the ACS Tech Center. The workshop, "Teaching, Course Management, and Viruses" will focus on two main areas: teaching techniques for IT Staff and Course Management Systems. We will also bring together our working group on virus and hoax e-mail education. IT Personnel from all member ACS institutions are invited to participate. ACS covers the cost of travel, tuition, room, and food for ACS members attending the conference. Application deadline is September 20, 2002. ------------ An ACS Diversity conference is scheduled for April 10-12, 2003 at Rhodes College. More details will be available soon. If you are interested in participating in a faculty exchange, please review the Faculty Exchange Guidelines on the ACS website at http://www.colleges.org/faculty_exchange.html. ---------- ACS is pleased to announce the continuation of our ACS Technology Fellowship Program for the Spring and Summer 2003 semesters. The deadline for applications is October 11, 2002. For more information and application materials, please see http://www.colleges.org/techcenter/fellowships.html. ---------- The Global Partners Best Practices Task Force seeks proposals for three
major grants related to international education. Proposals should be innovative
and collaborative and address a critical issue in the field. Proposals
or expressions of interest should be submitted by September 13, 2002.
For more information, see: ---------- Global Partners is pleased to be able to support a faculty development seminar in Central Europe in late June of 2003. The traveling seminar is designed for faculty who want to include international perspectives in their teaching and research. It is open to faculty of any discipline or level of experience in the region. This seminar will particularly focus on scientific and policy perspectives of environmental issues in Central and Eastern Europe. Applications are due to Associated Colleges of the Midwest by October 15, 2002, with recommendations from academic deans due October 25; participants will be selected by December 15, 2002. The group intends to provide approximately 15 students with the opportunity to visit Cuba for 7-10 days during coordinated spring break periods. Faculty will need to be teaching a class with appropriate LAS content and will collaborate on selecting joint readings that will support and enhance the experience in Cuba and will be discussed across ACS campuses prior to departure.
