1. ACS MUSIC COMPLETES TWO SUCCESSFUL INTERNET 2 PROJECTS
On March 23 faculty members and students from Birmingham-Southern, the
University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Wheaton College in Norton,
Massachusetts participated in a live broadcast of coaching sessions with the
winners of the Composers of Internet 2 (CI2): Technology-Enabled Composition
Contest. Complete details about the project are available at:

three of the sessions are available for public viewing on the site as well.
On April 10 Sewanee music faculty and students participated in an Internet 2
broadcast led by the New York based Da Capo Chamber Players performing at
the North Carolina School for the Arts. East Carolina State also joined in
this project. In the two-hour session students at all three institutions
were able to discuss performance and compositional techniques with the
players.

2. ACSTC ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2005 SOFTWARE ENGINEERING STUDENT INTERNS
Ten students from six ACS institutions (Centenary, Furman, Millsaps,
Southwestern, Trinity, University of the South) and one NITLE Southern
Region School were selected to participate in the ACSTC Summer Software
Engineering Internship, to be held May 30 - July 29, 2005 at the ACS
Technology Center at Southwestern University. Students will receive
instruction in software engineering concepts along with hands-on experience
designing and coding real-world applications. For more information, please

3. ACS ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS ANNOUNCES NEW GRANT
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the ACS Environmental Programs
$300,000 to be used over the next three years. With these funds, ACS will
continue supporting campus and alliance leaders, curriculum development, and
workshops and conferences. We also will move in new directions to support
student teaching assistantships, model internships, campus community
partnerships, environmental justice, and service learning. Please join us in
participating in the consortium's Environmental Programs.

1. GLOBAL PARTNERS OPPORTUNITIES
**The Language and Technology Task Force offers funding for attendance
at CARLA (Center for Advanced Research in Language Acquisition) Summer
Institutes in July 2005: 1) Culture as the Core in the Second Language
Classroom; 2) Developing Classroom Materials for Less Commonly Taught
Languages and 3) Maximizing Study Abroad: Teaching Strategies for Language

2. WOMEN'S/GENDER STUDIES CONFERENCE 2006
Plan now to attend the ACS 2006 Women's/Gender Studies Conference at
Centenary College. It's not too early to plan your attendance at the
conference and to start mentoring your students' presentations.

3. DRAMA/THEATRE WORKSHOP AT CENTRE COLLEGE
