1. DEADLINE FOR CAMPUS AS A LABORATORY FOR SUSTAINABILITY GRANTS

The second deadline for Campus as a Laboratory for Sustainability grants is April 5. Please see our application at http://www.colleges.org/~enviro/proposals/cls_rfp.pdf.

2. INTERPRETING THE MIDDLE AGES COLLOQUIUM

The annual Sewanee Medieval Colloquium will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, and will explore the theme "The Middle Ages in the Post-Medieval World: Reception and Interpretation." Keynote speakers are R. Howard Bloch (Yale), Eamon Duffy (Cambridge), and Stephen G. Nichols (Johns Hopkins). 3. STIPEND AVAILABLE - ACS ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES INITIATIVE

The Curriculum and Faculty Development Alliance of the ACS Environmental Initiative is offering a one-year stipend of $2500 (for 2002-2003 Academic Year) for an ACS student or faculty member to create the "Environmental Curricula" and "Resources" links.

The recipient of the stipend will, among other tasks: update the environmental curricula pages, and develop a site list for environmentally relevant web sites that might be useful for instructors.

Applications are available at the web site (http://www.furman.edu/~worthen/fcd/fcdfr.htm), and should be copied, completed, and e-mailed by May 15th, 2002 to Wade Worthen at worthen@furman.edu.

The stipend will be awarded by July 1, 2002. The recipient will work closely with Wade Worthen, Director of the Curriculum and Faculty Development Alliance.

4. SUMMER WORKSHOPS AT THE ACSTC

The following workshops and meetings will be offered at the ACS Technology Center in Summer 2002. Travel and room/board while at the workshop will be covered for successful ACS applicants. Deadline for application: May 1, 2002 or when filled.

5. GLOBAL PARTNERS SEEKS SEMINAR FACILITATOR

The Global Partners Project Central Europe/Russia Task Force is looking for a facilitator for an interdisciplinary faculty development seminar in Central Europe for the summer of 2003. The seminar aims to encourage the study of Central Europe by scholars and teachers from a variety of disciplines. The seminar will run for two to three weeks and will be based at Palacký University, Olomouc, Czech Republic, with excursions to other Central European sites.

The seminar facilitator will plan the seminar with the task force and the office of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. The Global Partners Project will fund a $3500 stipend, plus expenses, for the facilitator. The task force will consider proposals from an interdisciplinary team.

6. GRANTS AVAILABLE TO PLAN MAJOR ENDEAVORS IN INFORMATION FLUENCY

The Information Fluency Project Coordinating Committee announces a call for proposals from ACS members for planning grants for major endeavors in the area of information fluency. This call is specifically for proposals to plan collaborative projects that will likely require significant funding to implement. Proposals will be considered as they are submitted. 7. FALL 2002 INTER-INSTITUTIONAL GREEK AND LATIN COURSES

SUNOIKISIS, the ACS collaboration in Classics, will be offering two Inter-institutional courses in the Fall of 2002. Latin 395 "Literature from Late Antiquity and the Medieval Period" will be co-directed by Anne Leen (Furman University) <anne.leen@furman.edu> and Glenda Carl (Southwestern University) <carlg@southwestern.edu>. Greek 395 "Hellenistic Literature" will be directed by Kenneth Morrell (Rhodes College) <morrell@rhodes.edu>.

Faculty development workshops related to the syllabi will be held in June, and are open to all ACS members, regardless of participation in the fall. 8. UPCOMING ACS ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE WORKSHOPS

Upcoming ACSEI Workshops for interested faculty at all ACS institutions:

"So You Want to Build an Environmental Program," April 5-7, Furman University, Greenville, SC. Activities will include discussion of existing programs, strengths and weaknesses; developing intro and capstone courses; funding opportunities; and possible incorporation of service learning projects into environmental studies curricula. Student Workshop: "Sustainable Leadership: Creating Environmental Campus Initiatives that Last," April 12-14, Heifer Ranch, Perryville, AR.
Activities will include an introduction to the concept of sustainability; discussion of nuts and bolts of leadership; a discussion of what works/might work on your campus; a "how to" on grant writing; and team-building exercises. "Greening The International Experience: Incorporating Environmental Context
into the Overseas Experience," April 26-28, Rollins College, Winter Park, FL.
Activities will include an introduction to the concept of sustainability and sustainable development; discussion of existing international environmental courses; how to create a new international environmental course; and how to add an environmental module to a pre-existing course that has no environmental content at present.
