1999 SUMMER PROGRAM IN WATERSHED RESEARCH

The Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, and Chemistry Departments at Furman have received an NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates grant for the summer 1999 that will support 10 students in a research project on the Enoree Watershed in upper South Carolina. Students at ACS institutions are welcome. CALLS FOR PROPOSALS AND STUDENT DESIGNS AND PHOTOGRAPHY FOR 3RD ACS WOMEN'S STUDIES CONFERENCE

The organizers of the 3rd Biennial ACS Women's Studies Conference invite student, staff and faculty submissions of paper proposals for the October 15-17 conference at Birmingham-Southern College. The conference theme is "Gendered Environments." We also invite student submissions for our conference logo design competition and for a photography exhibit that will be held in conjunction with the conference. SIGN UP FOR SUMMER 1999 FACULTY TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

We are offering several technology workshops for faculty at the new ACS Technology Center at Southwestern University. ACS will pay a travel allowance plus room and board and a small stipend for accepted participants.

Dates and topics:

June 5-8: ACS Virtual Classical Studies Meeting and Work Session
June 27-30: Applications of Educational Technologies in the Classroom
July 7-11: WWW for Biologists
July 21-25: Educational Technologies Bootcamp
July 28-31: Working with Macromedia Applications

The deadline for application for these workshop is Friday May 7, 1999.

APPLY NOW FOR ACS TECHNOLOGY FELLOWSHIPS

ACS is pleased to announce the resumption of our Technology Fellowships program, in which faculty are awarded stipends to enable them to produce technology-based teaching materials that can be shared with others in the consortium. We are also making available a limited number of "Fellowships in Residence" that will enable recipients to spend time at the ACS Technology Center while completing their projects. The deadline for Fall 1999 fellowship applications is June 11, 1999. For Spring and Summer 2000, the application deadline is October 15, 1999. DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR SUMMER STUDY PROGRAM IN TURKEY

Under the auspices of the Associated Colleges of the South, Drs. Pam and Hal Haskell of Southwestern University are leading a four week summer study tour in Turkey from June 15 to July 12, 1999. Participants wishing to take the summer study tour for credit may earn four hours of undergraduate credit, plus an additional two hours with extra work. Transfer credit can be arranged to another institution. Please tell your students about this opportunity! Deadline for application is April 1, 1999.
