The Sewanee Medieval Colloquium is a multi-disciplinary conference on the Middle Ages held annually on the campus of the University of the South. This year's meeting, on the theme "The Legacy of Antiquity in the Middle Ages," will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5. Our plenary speakers are Henry Mayr-Harting of Christ Church, Oxford, Marcia Colish of Oberlin College, and Kevin Brownlee of the University of Pennsylvania. The conference program, registration materials, and information on lodging in and around Sewanee are on-line at http://www.sewanee.edu/Medieval/main.html.

2) APPLY NOW FOR ACS SUMMER TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

The ACS Tech Center will offer summer workshops in Producing Digital Collections, Web Accessible Databases for Digital Collections, and Advanced Flash. We will also host disciplinary meetings for Classics, Modern Languages & the REALIA Project, and Music. Deadline for application: April 22, 2003 or when filled. For more information about these workshops and
application forms, please visit http://www.colleges.org/techcenter/workshop/workshops.html.

3) ACS CONSIDERING MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES COLLABORATION

The ACS Technology Center seeks faculty and librarians who might advise us about the possibility of creating an ACS interdisciplinary collaborative initiative with a focus on Middle Eastern studies. Such a collaboration might include inter-campus teaching (taking advantage of the NITLE materials at http://www.nitle.org/arabworld), visiting (or "virtual") lecturers, and faculty/staff development. We need your ideas and input! If you are interested in the possibilities, please contact Suzanne Bonefas, bonefas@colleges.org or 512-863-1295.
----------

4) FIFTH IT STAFF SYMPOSIUM PLANNED

ACS is planning its fifth meeting for consortium IT staff, to focus on training issues, customer service, technical trends and issues and/or IT leadership. We welcome all staff in IT-related areas to send us your preferences for dates and topics by completing our online survey at http://www.colleges.org/~support/interests2003.html . If you would be willing to help coordinate or present at the meeting, please contact Rebecca Davis, rdavis@colleges.org.

5) REALIA IMAGE DATABASE NOW SHOWING ON A WEBSITE NEAR YOU

Faculty and fans of modern languages and culture are invited to view the freshly completed REALIA Project prototype at http://www.realiaproject.org and complete the on-line survey. REALIA (Rich Electronic Archive for Language Instruction Anywhere) has been under the direction of faculty members, technologists and librarians from the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS), the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) and the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA). The prototype includes more than 200 images from Spanish- and Russian-speaking countries with detailed descriptions and suggestions for classroom discussion. Response to the survey will shape development of the collection, including expansion to additional languages and media. For more information about the project, as well as the June workshop at the ACS Technology Center to continue the work of digitizing and cataloging images, please contact Deena Berg, dberg@colleges.org.
