OPPORTUNITIES

1. SEMESTER IN TURKEY FALL 2006

Global Partners is pleased to announce that Dr. Dan Shaw of Colorado College will be the director of the Fall 2006 Semester in Turkey Program. Dr. Shaw has traveled extensively in the Middle East, including Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. He teaches courses in Islamic Studies and in Christianity, specializing in issues of cultural interchange between Islamic and Christian societies.

The Semester in Turkey Program offers students a unique opportunity to study in both Istanbul and Ankara and includes a week long field trip in western Turkey. 2. WOMEN'S/GENDER STUDIES CONFERENCE 2006

You can still register and attend the ACS 2006 Women's/Gender Studies Conference at Centenary College. Even if you didn't send in a submission, don't miss the exciting line-up of keynote speakers, international guests and musical performances. The new keynote speaker is Naomi Wolf. The Magnolia Sisters are the featured performers and will present many styles of the French music characteristic of the heritage of Louisiana. 3. LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES SYMPOSIUM

The 14th Annual Latin American Studies Symposium will be held at Birmingham-Southern College April 7-8, 2006. This interdisciplinary event is a unique opportunity for undergraduate student to present their research in a professional setting. Last year's roundtable with graduate students in Latin American Studies and Spanish programs will be repeated this year. 4. INTERDISCIPLINARY MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE

Curricular and co-curricular proposals are invited for Interdisciplinary mini-grants. Submission deadlines are April 17, 2006 and October 6, 2006. 5. UNDERGRADUATE COLLABORATIVE SCHOLARSHIPS/RESEARCH GRANTS AVAILABLE

All departments and divisions at ACS member institutions are invited to apply for grants that may be used for planning purposes or for the design, redesign, implementation, or assessment of collaborative scholarship/research opportunities. 6. DIVERSITY MINI-GRANTS FOR STUDENT LED COLLABORATION WITH FACULTY/STAFF AVAILABLE

ACS students in collaboration with faculty/staff are invited to submit proposals that address diversity issues/concerns that affect and challenge campus climates. 7. WORKSHOP MINI-GRANTS FOR CAMPUS DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP MODELS AVAILABLE

These small mini-grants are available to help offset expenses associated with hosting a campus workshop to develop on-going campus models that promote staff, faculty, and student Diversity Leadership. Submission deadlines are March 15, 2006 and October 20, 2006. 8. CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARITY IN SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS, FALL 2006

Trinity University will be hosting a Conference on Interdisciplinarity in Science and Mathematics October 13-14, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. The conference will be a combination of oral sessions for people to disseminate information about interdisciplinary programs and projects on their campuses and workshops for people to brainstorm about ways of improving interdisciplinary connectedness and overcoming challenges to cross-disciplinary collaborations (both in teaching and research). The conference is sponsored by Trinity University’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute Program, and funding is available to support all travel, lodging, and expenses for one representative from each ACS campus. In addition, they welcome one or two additional campus representatives to come along as part of a team. The TU-HHMI Program will cover the food costs of the additional representatives. The conference will be held on the Trinity campus and at the Hotel Valencia on San Antonio’s Riverwalk. For more information visit our website at: www.trinity.edu/org/hhmi.

11. ROLLINS COLLEGE TO OFFER INTERNATIONAL FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

Rollins College, in collaboration with the Global Partners consortium, introduces its newest faculty development summer seminar-in Costa Rica! Rollins will subsidize 12 faculty to attend this seminar, so cost per participant is only $950, INCLUSIVE OF AIRFARE. These subsidies are available by application, and not only ACS faculty, but faculty in the Great Lakes and Midwest consortia colleges are invited to participate as well.
