NEWS

1.   SYMPOSIUM ON SHAKESPEARE THEN AND NOW AT DAVIDSON COLLEGE

Play On!  A Symposium on Shakespeare Then and Now at Davidson College, March 13-14, 2005, is part of the Royal Shakespeare Company Residency at Davidson College.  Participants include Shakespearean scholars and practitioners including: RSC Director of Voice Cicely Berry, Director Emeritus of the Folger Shakespeare Library Werner Gundersheimer, Historian David Cressy, Professor and Theatre Director Robert Cohen, Scholar Coppelia Kahn, and political commentator Ken Adelman.

2.    TEXAS COMPOSERS SCHEDULE EXCHANGE LECTURES AND MASTERCLASSES

3.    ACS ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

ACS wishes to thank all 150 participants in the 2005 Environmental Summit, which took place February 11-13 at Morehouse College. Presentations by students, staff and faculty, along with the enthusiastic participation of non-presenters, made the conference a huge success. A special thanks to Morehouse personnel, including vice presidents Willis Sheftall and Andre Bertrand, deans Calvin Grimes and J.K. Haynes, professors Larry Blumer and Mona Ray, special assistant Lea Brooks, and the Morehouse caterers, van driver, and faculty who chaired sessions.  For more information on the Summit, please contact Environmental Programs director Elizabeth L. 1.    MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE  FOR ACS SCIENCE REFORM PROGRAM

Course Mini-Grants are available through the ACS Science Reform Program. Submission deadline is March 15,2005. 2. APPLY NOW FOR ACSTC SUMMER 2005 WORKSHOPS

4.  APPLY NOW FOR NITLE SUMMER SEMINARS FOR ARAB WORLD OR DIGITAL GAMING

NITLE will sponsor Projected Selves, Reflected Others:  An Al-Musharaka Seminar on Collaboration and Technology in Teaching about Arab, Islamic and Middle Eastern Cultures, June 16-22, 2005.  Apply by March 31.

5.  TRANSFORMATIONS: WINTER ISSUE AND CFP FOR SPRING/SUMMER

The ACSTC is seeking papers for the Spring/Summer 2005 issue of Transformations, which has as its theme collaboration, both within and beyond institutional boundaries. Particular areas of interest are alliances among faculty, librarians and technologists, and formal or informal organizational structures that promote relationships among these constituencies on liberal arts campuses. Submissions are due by April 15, 2005, and may be sent to the co-editors: Bob Johnson (johnsonb@rhodes.edu) and Terry Metz, (tmetz@wheatoncollege.edu). 6.    GLOBAL PARTNERS OPPORTUNITIES

**The Language and Technology Task Force offers funding for attendance at CARLA (Center for Advanced Research in Language Acquisition) Summer Institutes in July 2005: 1) Culture as the Core in the Second Language Classroom; 2) Developing Classroom Materials for Less Commonly Taught Languages and 3) Maximizing Study Abroad: Teaching Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Use.   Deadline:  Applications received by March 1, 2005 will be given first priority. 7.    ACS SCHOLARSHIP FOR CIEE SEMINAR

ACS is pleased to announce that during the summer of 2005 we will be able to offer a scholarship for participation in any of the Council on International Educational Exchange's faculty seminars.  CIEE offers faculty development seminars in 15 countries.  Application deadline is March 15, 2005.  Please visit ttp://www.colleges.org/~international/CIEEgrant.html for the application process.

8.   APPLY NOW FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MINI-GRANTS

The Curriculum and Faculty Development Alliance (CFD) and the Campus as a Lab for Sustainability Alliance (CLS) each have rolling deadlines for grants and are actively seeking faculty, staff, and students to apply for grants.
