ACS RECEIVES GRANT FOR NEW TECH CENTER PLANNING

We are pleased to announce that ACS has received a planning grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, to enable us to plan for a possible expansion of ACS Technology Center programming. The Mellon Foundation has expressed an interest in exploring how 3 national Technology Centers, one of which would be the ACS Center at Southwestern University, might work together to support a group of about 100 national liberal arts colleges. Among other things, we will consider whether and how to expand our offerings to a larger group of institutions, how we might support IT departments across the consortium, how to meet the needs of our members with a "mobile lab", and how best to involve students in our programming. The planning period is January - June, 2001. After we begin our discussions at the upcoming Information Fluency Symposium, we will continue the planning with a series of online fora. If you have ideas for forum topics and/or would like to serve as moderator for one of these discussions, please contact Suzanne Bonefas, bonefas@colleges.org. We hope to attract moderators who represent all ACS constituencies: students, faculty, administration, library and IT.
