OPPORTUNITIES

1.    ACS Explores On-line Instruction

Are you interested in developing an on-line course or module or seminar or tutorial?  If you are, please let us know.  The consortium is exploring with interested faculty on-line instructional efforts that would give a student access to programs on one ACS campus that are not available on his or her home campus. If you are interested in such cross-institutional connections, please contact Marcia White of the ACS staff at mwhite@colleges.org.

2.    Summer Teaching and Learning Workshop

The annual ACS Summer Teaching and Learning Workshop is scheduled for June 6-11, 2011 at Rollins College. Interested faculty are encouraged to contact their academic deans who will nominate faculty for the workshop. More information is available at www.colleges.org/summerteach/summerteach.html or by contacting the workshop's director, Barbara Lom, Associate Professor & Chair of Biology at Davidson College (balom@davidson.edu).

3.    British Studies Symposium at Birmingham-Southern

The February 2011 symposium on British Studies will be held at Birmingham-Southern College. Following is the detailed information:

Dates:         Friday and Saturday, February 25th and 26th
Location:     Birmingham-Southern College

Organizer and primary contact: Mark Lester - ( mlester@bsc.edu), Secondary contact: Michael Leslie (leslie@rhodes.edu)

Call for papers and abstracts will go out once the fall semester is underway; paper proposals will be due no later than the end of January 2011.
Further information on this year’s conference may be obtained from Mark Lester at mlester@bsc.edu at Birmingham-Southern College or Michael Leslie at leslie@rhodes.edu at Rhodes College.

4.    Call for Papers:  Latin American Symposium

Please plan to attend the 19th Annual Latin American Studies Symposium hosted by Birmingham-Southern College on April 8, 2011.  This inter- and multi-disciplinary event is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research in a professional setting.  The Symposium has grown to become one of the largest of its kind, with students from nearly 30 colleges and universities participating last year.  The event has become a valuable opportunity for students and faculty to discuss a wide range of topics in the Americas region.  Since this year’s Symposium is a one-day event, space will be limited and only the best proposals will be accepted.

The deadline for submission is February 7th, 2011
