NITLE OPPORTUNITIES
1. Enhancing Study Abroad: The Role of Technology

1. ROLLING DEADLINE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS
The three alliances of the ACS Environmental Initiative seek proposals for grants from $500-$2000. Curriculum and Faculty Development Alliance, the Student Development and Engagement Alliance, and the Campus-Community Partnerships Alliance continue to support environmental projects including new and revamped courses, service learning and other community partnerships, environmental justice research and activities, student teaching assistants, and internal or external internships. We are especially interested in funding new work that has not received grants in the past. RFPs are online at www.colleges.org/enviro. 2. WASHINGTON AND LEE TO HOST GREENHOUSE GAS INVENTORY WORKSHOP
Washington and Lee University, in Lexington VA, will host a one day workshop on Tuesday, October 16 on how to inventory greenhouse gases, along with strategies for proceeding once your inventory is completed. Even if your president has not yet signed the Presidents Climate Commitment, this information will be invaluable. More information is available at www.covesva.org.
3. EPA/CDC STUDENT SYMPOSIUM
EPA Region 4, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and others, will host the second annual Southeast Regional Collegiate Environmental Science and Health Symposium in Atlanta on November 14 (http://www.scgcorp.com/collegiate07/). Students from universities and colleges in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi will showcase environmental health, environmental science, environmental justice, and other related environmental studies research for participating Federal Agencies and academic communities. 4. ROLLING PROPOSAL DEADLINES FOR GRANTS IN DIVERSITY
Two types of Diversity Mini-Grants are available:
a) Student Led Collaboration with Faculty & Staff for Diversity Mini-Grants
The Diversity Planning Committee invites students, in collaboration with faculty/staff, at all ACS institutions to submit proposals for Diversity Mini-Grant Awards. Proposals may be submitted for any type of diversity issues/concerns that directly affect and challenge campus climate. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning February 9, 2007 and ending February 8, 2008 for grants up to $2,500 each. Projects must be completed and final reports submitted by May 15, 2008. Information on guidelines, selection criteria, and required proposal cover sheet are found at http://www.colleges.org/diversity/programs/minigrant_students.html. b) Workshop Mini-Grants for Campus Diversity Leadership Models
The Diversity Planning Committee is offering grants of up to $2,000 each. These mini-grants are offered to offset expenses associated with hosting a campus workshop to develop and promote staff, faculty, and student Diversity Leadership. Diversity Leadership models include, but are not limited to, those provided by National Coalition Building Institute [NCBI], the Anti-Defamation League, Training for Social Change, and the National Conference for Community and Justice. Other models also may be used. 5. INTERDISCIPLINARY MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE
The Interdisciplinary Opportunities Task Force invites all ACS institutions to submit proposals for mini-grants. The final date for proposals that may be funded up to $8,500 for initial proposals and $4,250 for supplemental proposals is *October 15, 2007. *Supplemental proposals maybe submitted for projects to repeat or continue a project previously funded by an ACS Interdisciplinary mini grant. Projects may be for Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 semesters and must be completed and final report received by May 16, 2008. 6. ANNUAL MEETING OF SENIOR STUDENT LIFE OFFICERS

7. 16TH ANNUAL LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES SYMPOSIUM
Birmingham-Southern College Latin American Studies Program invite proposal from students to the 16th Annual LAS Symposium on March 14-15, 2008. This interdisciplinary conference aims to promote undergraduate research focused on Latin America. The deadline for submitting panel/paper proposals to the address listed below or online is November 30, 2007. 8. 2008 ACS FALL SEMESTER IN TURKEY PROGRAM
Applications for the 2008 ACS Fall Semester in Turkey Program are now being accepted. The deadline for application is February 15, 2008. 9. BRITISH STUDIES CONFERENCE
The British Studies Conference is schedule for February 15-16, 2008 at Birmingham-Southern College. Information on the conference may be obtained from Michael Leslie (LESLIE@rhodes.edu) or Mark Lester (mlester@bsc.edu).
10. ACS SUMMER TEACHING AND LEARNING WORKSHOP
The ACS Summer Teaching and Learning Workshop is scheduled for June 3-8, 2008 at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The workshop is designed for good teachers who want to hone their craft and build a culture of excellent teaching on their respective campuses. If you are interested in attending this year's workshops, please contact your academic dean or provost who then nominate you for participation. NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION (NITLE) OPPORTUNITIES
ENHANCING STUDY ABROAD: THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY
NITLE will host a conference, Enhancing Study Abroad: The Role of Technology on March 28 - 30, 2008 at Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA <http://www.dickinson.edu/>
The conference is for faculty members, leaders of study-abroad programs, instructional technologists, and librarians interested in exploring how emerging interactive technologies can be used to extend and deepen international learning experiences and more fully integrate those experiences with the broader learning program on campus. *Level* Appropriate for all levels of experience *Prerequisites* Engagement as a teacher or facilitator of study abroad and awareness of emerging technologies (those sometimes referred to collectively as "Web 2.0") will be useful for participation.
