Opportunities

1. THE "TEACHING FRENCH THROUGH SONG AND SINGING" PROJECT

Southwestern University's Dr. Aaron Prevots completed construction of his ACS-Mellon funded educational web site French through Songs and Singing, http://www.southwestern.edu/~prevots/songs/. He is now soliciting articles in French or in English on areas such as music, culture, and pedagogy. Submissions are made in a public interest spirit, as contributions to a collaborative scholarly project. 2. CALL FOR APPLICANTS - FACULTY SUMMER SEMINAR- THE PEDAGOGY OF BELIEF AND DOUBT

The University of Richmond -- with the support of the Teagle Foundation -- will host a Faculty Summer Seminar on "The Pedagogy of Belief and Doubt." Pedagogical challenges related to aspects of belief (defined broadly) will be the focus of the project devoted to curricular and professional development for faculty from the humanities, social sciences and lab sciences. Faculty who are designing new courses or creating new components for existing courses to be taught in the 2007-08 academic year are eligible to apply. Selected participants will be offered a $4,000 stipend to attend the seminar June 4 - 8, 2007 to develop their courses and teaching methods and a $300 stipend to attend a three-day seminar in June 2008 to review the outcomes of their courses. The deadline for applications is February 15th.

3. ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS AVAILABLE

Environmental grants from $500 to $3000 are available again this year for curriculum development, campus-community partnerships, student teaching assistantships, and environmental internships. 4. ROLLING DEADLINE FOR STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND ENGAGEMENT ALLIANCE

The Student Development and Engagement Alliance now has a rolling deadline for proposals in both categories: student internships and teaching assistantships. For more information, please see the SDE rfp at http://www.colleges.org/enviro/proposals/SDE_RFP_0607.pdf.

5. SEMESTER IN TURKEY FALL 2007

The Global Partners Semester in Turkey Program is currently taking applications for the fall of 2007. Since 2001, this unique program has offered students an opportunity to study in both Istanbul and Ankara and includes a week long field trip in western Turkey. The program is open to students in all disciplines, including the natural sciences. All classes are conducted in English. 6. TEACHING AND LEARNING WORKSHOP

The dates for this year's ACS Teaching and Learning Workshop are June 5-10, 2007. Held each year at Rollins College in Winter Park FL, the workshop is designed for good teachers who want to hone their craft and build a culture of excellent teaching on their respective campuses. Both senior and junior faculty from all disciplines will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their teaching, trade ideas and techniques, and discuss the unique pedagogical challenges and opportunities of the liberal arts environment. If you are interested in attending this year's workshop, please contact your academic dean or provost who will then nominate you for participation. We will be notifying faculty members of their participation by March 1. 7. NEW ROLLING PROPOSAL DEADLINES FOR GRANTS IN DIVERSITY

Two types of Diversity Mini-Grants are available:

1._ Student Led Collaboration with Faculty & Staff for Diversity Mini-Grants_
The Diversity Planning Committee invites students, in collaboration with faculty/staff, at all ACS institutions to submit proposals for Diversity Mini-Grant Awards. Proposals may be submitted for any type of diversity issues/concerns that directly affect and challenge campus climate. *Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning February 9, 2007 and ending September 30, 2007 *for grants up to $2,500 each. Projects must be completed and final reports submitted by November 15, 2007. Complete information can be found at http://www.colleges.org/diversity/programs/minigrant_students.html. 2. _Workshop Mini-Grants for Campus Diversity Leadership Models_
The Diversity Planning Committee is offering grants of up to $2,000 each. These mini-grants are offered to offset expenses associated with hosting a campus workshop to develop and promote staff, faculty, and student Diversity Leadership. /Please note that these grants are different from the Diversity Mini-Grants for Student Led Collaboration with Faculty and Staff./ *Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning February 2, 2007 and ending October 10, 2007.* Projects must be completed and final report submitted by November 15, 2007. *8. FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY MINI-GRANTS**

The Interdisciplinary Task Force invites all ACS institutions to submit proposals for mini-grants. The final date for proposals that may be funded up to $8,500 for initial proposals and $4, 250 for supplemental proposals is *February 16, 2007. *Supplemental proposals maybe submitted for projects to continue a project previously funded by an ACS Interdisciplinary mini grant. All projects must be completed and final reports received by November 15, 2007. 9. DIVERSITY WORKSHOP AT MOREHOUSE COLLEGE

As a part of our ACS Diversity Initiative, a “Conversation with Minority Faculty,” a faculty development workshop is being hosted February 9th and 10th at Morehouse College. Each Dean is encouraged to nominate a minority faculty member for participation. For further information, contact Marcia White, mwhite@colleges.org.

10. ACS CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICERS MEETING

ACS Chief Financial Officers (CFO’s) will meet at Centre College, March 28-30, 2007. For further meeting information, please contact John Cuny at cuny@centre.edu or Marcia White at mwhite@colleges.org.

11. COSTA RICA FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Again this summer, Rollins College is organizing and hosting a seminar in Costa Rica for faculty members of Global Partners Project institutions. Rollins is generously subsidizing almost half of the expenses of the seminar to significantly reduce costs for participants. Applications are due no later than February 16, 2007. 12. 2007 WORKSHOP ON THE FUTURE OF NUCLEAR POWER

The 2007 Summer Workshop on the Future of Nuclear Power is to be held at Washington and Lee University, June 20-24. This interdisciplinary opportunity for college faculty is intended to inform them of the important issues surrounding the role of nuclear energy. It should be of interest to faculty in the physical and life sciences, environmental science, the social and political sciences, and economics. The URL for the workshop is http://npw.wlu.edu.
