International Programs

For example, ACS students are offered opportunities to study the political, economic and historical transformation of Central Europe in Budapest, Hungary, field biology and sustainable development in Costa Rica, British Studies at Oxford, and Australian studies and other subjects at the University of Sydney. Students may also participate in a service learning experience in Honduras.

In addition to the sixteen programs related to the consortium, students from ACS institutions may enroll, on a space-available basis, in the overseas programs sponsored by the individual institutions. Altogether, ACS students are offered foreign study opportunities in more than sixty programs in over forty countries.

The consortium is especially mindful of the value of international experiences for faculty. As a result, contacts are being made with individuals and organizations from various parts of the world as a first step toward international faculty workshops, seminars, teaching and research opportunities. These experiences will be designed to establish networks of faculty with similar interests, promote collaborative teaching endeavors and stimulate joint research.

International Program Directors, who constitute an advisory group to the consortium, continue to examine ways to strengthening current programs and exploring new possibilities around the world.

ACS Information Exchange and Service to Members

The consortium exchanges considerable data among its members. This effort is undertaken in order to enable each institution to make helpful comparisons. Through this exchange, institutions learn from one another about library resources, technology, academic courses and programs, student services, and other features worthy of emulation or open to cooperation among institutions. Information is also shared about the interests of individual faculty and administrators as a means of encouraging dialogue and joint efforts.

Another service is the consortium's Tuition Exchange Program for dependents of ACS faculty and staff who pay only $1,500 per year toward tuition at an ACS institution.
