ACS Mission Statement

Through international programs ACS seeks to assist member institutions in enhancing opportunities for varied international learning experiences for faculty, students, and staff. These programs should expand the international character and global perspective of member institutions. Such programs include, but are not limited to, faculty and student exchanges, off-campus study, and coordination of linkages with selected higher education institutions and organizations, both domestic and overseas, outside of the consortium.

Off-campus study opportunities for students are one component of international programs. The Associated Colleges of the South creates, reviews and evaluates such collaborative off-campus study programs that provide appropriate and challenging learning experiences to students from member colleges. ACS programs are expected to meet some or all of the following objectives:

1) To expose students to environments in which they have the opportunity to study foreign languages and learn about cultures through both academic study and everyday life.

2) To help students develop an informed and on-site view of important national, international, or regional issues.

3) To provide opportunities for active or experiential learning through a variety of field work, internship, service-learning or applied research activities.
