Millsaps College has received a $400,000 grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to launch a new research program and establish the W.M. Keck Center for Instrumental and BioChemical Comparative Archeology. The center will support pioneering interdisciplinary research to explore complex archeological questions using bioanalytical and biochemical techniques. Full Story
Rhodes College received a $500,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
to enable students to broaden connections between the classroom and the community with a focus on environmental policy. The three-year grant will strengthen environmental studies initiatives at Rhodes and fund three postdoctoral positions to help Rhodes expand its current Environmental Science program to Environmental Studies. Southwestern University
has received $263,318 in government
funds that will be used to launch a new Center for Hispanic Studies. The center will be run in partnership with the National Hispanic Institute (NHI), which is based in Maxwell, Texas.

Washington and Lee University named six juniors as the first recipients of the University’s new Student Summer Independent Research (SSIR) grants. Developed as a complement to Washington and Lee’s established R. E. Lee Scholars program, which promotes research by students and faculty during the Summer, the SSIR grants underwrite students on independent research and creative projects on their own, with faculty mentoring and supervision.
