ACS Student Environmental Leadership Training

The Associated Colleges of the South
Student Environmental Leadership Training
Heifer Ranch- Perryville AK
October 15-17, 1999

This workshop aims to provide effective leadership training to the ACS Environmental Interns and subsequently increase collaboration and provide further structure to the ACS environmental internship program. The goal is to give our ACS student interns the appropriate skills to facilitate positive and effective environmental activities and programs on their campus.

Collaboration

In following with the ACS goals to enhance collaboration among ACS institutions this workshop will provide the opportunity for ACS student collaborative projects while allowing the time for the sharing of previous ideas and experience. This time will help to encourage teamwork and create a resource base amongst themselves, so that over the next school year they may look to each other for advice, ideas, and support.

Skills and Leadership

The workshop will also give ACS interns the skills they need to effectively organize events, activities, and projects, as well as teach them a general range of skills necessary for their new leadership position.

Expectations

This time will be used to clearly review the role of the intern and ACS internship expectations, which include: A preliminary 'Plan of Action', short monthly updates, short report mid-year and an end of the year report/evaluation. Second, interns are expected to provide assistance to the ACS environmental fellow and any ACS related projects on their campus. Lastly, interns will have to contribute to periodic requests for articles/ information for the quarterly environmental newsletter and for ACS web resource information.
