Sustainable Campus Development Clinic
February 12-14, 1999
Davidson College

StudentsOn February 12-14, 1999, Davidson College hosted the clinic, co-sponsored by Associated Colleges of the South and the National Wildlife Federations Campus Ecology, which addressed sustainable building design, landscape, and transportation. The Sustainable Campus Development Clinic provided a more in depth understanding of these issues, by addressing the various problems and solutions to ecological design, as well as suggesting strategies for the implementation of these solutions. This clinic ultimately helped to create a more cohesive master plan to the building, transport, and landscaping on the participating campuses.

One important aspect of the clinic was its "team" approach. The majority of participating institutions sent a team comprised of two students, faculty, physical plant staff members, and an administrator.  Throughout the weekend teams collectively used their own diversity of experience coupled with the speakers information to create a project plan and strategy for each topic area. The goal was to have the representatives from each institution return to their campuses and be able to put their ideas to practice at all levels of college life and operations.

NEW ACS INITIATIVES http://www.analog.cx/docs/Readme.html

The two-day clinic produced a number of exciting new ideas.  While non-ACS schools clearly benefited from the team format, this report will limit its discussion of new initiatives to those put forth by ACS schools.  To see what progress these schools have made over the past year,
