Mission

The primary goal of ad lib is to develop and support a community of teaching artists.

Goals, Dreams, Ideas

Inter-collegiality

  • Enhance inter-collegial opportunities among ACS schools
  • Promote spirit of cooperation rather than competition
  • Encourage a sense of an ACS community of artists

Support

  • ACS faculty could assist each other with SACS motivated outcomes assessment exercises, e.g. by acting as external evaluators
  • Share SACS outcomes assessment strategies, as well as tenure and promotion guidelines
  • ACS faculty could host professional development workshops, e.g. bring in a nationally known designer or director to lead creativity/collaboration workshop

Sharing

  • Share course syllabi, production calendars, design archives, ACS database on ad lib website
  • Share information about guest artists, perhaps creating an “Approved Artists List”
  • Find ways to use technologies to develop inter-collegiate teaching, e.g.:
o Share student drawings, renderings, and models using 3D modeling technology
o Students in the same class at different institutions might work in tandem on design projects
o Encourage ACS to develop live, interactive video technology to facilitate exchange across acting and directing classes

Major Exchange Projects

  • Faculty exchanges– proposed pilot for academic year 2003-2004
  • ACS Summer Theatre Festival with students and faculty from member schools with a rep season perhaps centered on a central theme, e.g. “sustainability”, “tolerance”
